What Is The GBO

Since the first GBO back in 1967, many Bangor area businesses and individuals have devoted an enormous amount of time, energy and resources to help the Tournament grow from a new event with a total purse of $7,500 to an event many professionals and amateurs rightly call "the best in New England" of its kind with a total purse that has reached the $50,000 mark.

They call it the best not only because it has gained the reputation of being one of the best organized tournaments in the region, but also because the GBO has become the largest charitable golf tournament in the State of Maine and one of the largest in New England. And, Greater Bangor Businesses continue to join with volunteers to keep this charitable event growing. In 2008, the GBO board has a new vision for providing an outstanding sporting event for our citizens as well as continuing it's charitable endeavors!

The Tournament's contributions to charities and to a positive image of the Greater Bangor Area has a nice place to live, work, and play can continue only with your help. Consequently, this year's Committee once again invites you to become a contributing partner in this effort to help the GBO get bigger and better!

SPONSORSHIP LEVELS

Corporate Sponsor - as a Corporate Sponsor, your contribution of $1,000 entitles you to 3 Pro-Am slots, preferred choice of Pro (based on availability), preferred choice of tee times (based on availability)  sponsor board listing, website/ad link, premium GBO logo fleece wear for all team participants, GBO participation gifts, Pro-Am corporate team competition, individual closest to the pin contest, hole in one chance for a new car, invitation to awards ceremony, and and invitation to the cocktail social!

Individual  Sponsor - as a Individual Sponsor, your contribution of $300 entitles you to 1 Pro-Am slot, GBO participation gift,  individual closest to the pin contest, hole in one chance for a new car, invitation to awards ceremony, and and invitation to the cocktail social!

When you accept the challenge to become a sponsor of the Greater Bangor Open, at whatever level you choose, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are not only contributing to a fine sports event that adds to the positive image of your community, but that you're also giving all year to several of the area's most deserving charities.

This is the 42nd annual tournament, now known as the Greater Bangor Open!

The GBO has raised more than $190,000 for the Maine Special Olympics program and other deserving charities in the past years and hopes to add substantially to that total this year!

Over 200 golfers traveling to the GBO, most of them from out-of-town, are encouraged to patronize food, beverage and travel accommodation of sponsors whose names accompany the application.

This year's tournament will run July 24-26, 2008.

Pro-Am Day features groupings of one Pro and three sponsors competing for valuable prizes. The     Pro-Am is a 4 ball tournament.

Special features during the Wednesday, July 23rd, Pro-Am Tournament include the always popular Driving Contest, a Closest-To-The-Pin Contest, a Hole-In-One Contest, a sponsor's luncheon, and a special party Wednesday evening at the new Hollywood Slots Hotel & Raceway!
